WHY WOULD MY SWITCHBOARD NEED AN UPGRADE YOU ASK…🤷🏼‍♀️

Many Switchboards that we come across are still the original boards that were installed when the house was built. While they may have stood the test of time it doesn’t mean that they are necessarily safe to the standards of today if a fault was to occur. Technological advancements in switchgear have now allowed us to be able to cut the power instantly to protect you and your family from a potentially fatal electric shock.

By using RCD Safety switches on ALL circuits which are now a requirement of AS/NZS 3000:2018 Australian standards on new installations, it means that those potentially fatal shocks can 90% of the time be avoided when the safety switch trips.

Another issue with older switchboards is that they are mounted on an ASBESTOS black backing board. These boards are carcinogenic and make adding circuits or adjusting existing switchgear not possible without exposing you and the electrician to Asbestos fibers.

But I have a safety switch am I up to standard?🙅🏼‍♂️ Maybe not…..

Back in the day when safety switches were first installed, they put multiple circuits on the one safety switch and they were big and took up heaps of room in your switchboard. The problem with this style of installation is that when something is wrong you lost all of these circuits in your house. This can be really frustrating and costly. Also note, it was only power circuits that were protected by a safety switch. Leaving all other circuits unprotected - ovens, lights, stovetops, air conditioners.

These days it’s not the case. We install small RCD safety switches on EVERY circuit, so if your kitchen circuit trips….. that’s all you lose, the rest of your house can keep functioning :) . A much better way to set up your house switchboard.
